A Happy Client Is A Repeat Client!

Freelancers thrive on repeat business for success. Having regular clients means you don’t have to constantly be selling yourself at every turn. They know you, and more importantly, like the work you’ve done. This makes office climate, deadlines, rate agreement negotiations and all other manner of sometimes-annoying particulars much more easily handled. Repeat clients are the closest thing a freelancer has to a dependable paycheck. As repeat business builds, the artist feels more comfortable taking ownership of a project, and not feeling as much like a hired hand. So how does one land more repeat business? The following tips should get you pointed in the right direction.
Be Flexible – Clients want to work with somebody that can deliver the goods, but also roll with the punches. You need to be able to work with others easily. The fewer headaches for the client the better. This means the ability to accept feedback or criticism without taking it to heart. Remember the goal in mind, and focus. Manage your tasks, accomplish the mission, and, if possible, over-deliver on your part. Clients will notice.
Follow Up – Don’t treat a project as if it’s a one-and-done. You worked to land the gig, you should want it to keep paying dividends. Too many freelancers have the mindset that if a client likes you, they’ll come begging for more. Bad call. Follow up with clients regularly to make sure they’re satisfied with the work you completed, and feel free to solicit more business. Or at least get referrals and testimonial praise to take with you.
