Bring The Holiday Spirit To Your Employees

It’s so easy for your employees to get distracted during the holiday season. Shopping, visits from relatives and countless other personal issues can drift into the workplace like a chilly breeze, cooling down motivation and freezing normal performance in place. And while it might be easier in theory to employ a certain red-nosed reindeer to bolster production, not many HR departments have those kinds of interviews lined up. So it’s up to you as an employer to inject a little holiday spirit into the office. Here are a few tips.

Decorate (tastefully)! – Bring a little holiday spirit into the office with some creative decorations. Some may shy away from this practice, but tinsel and treats can liven up the office and lift up spirits for those getting through the day. Just make sure you know your employees well enough to figure out which decorations are appropriate, and which to keep stashed in the closet.

Incentivize – People love to get stuff, especially as reward for a job well done. The holidays are a good excuse to motivate workers with gift cards, year-end bonuses, catered meals and the like. Decide which rewards and acknowledgments your employees can benefit from, and use the holidays to execute these incentives into action.

Be Flexible – The stress and distraction can be high, so be understanding when possible. As long as goals are being met, let them have the ability to take a call or step out for a longer lunch. Treating employees like adults with a little leeway here and there can still lead to a more productive work environment.

Par-Tay! – Nothing ushers in the holiday spirit and relieves pent-up stress like a great holiday celebration! Go all out for them, with quality food and drink. Holiday games, prizes and entertainment are a fantastic way to build camaraderie that can last the whole year long. Whether in the office or at a swanky locale, show your crew the holiday spirit they deserve.
