Freelance artists are quickly becoming a dominant force in the workplace, and employers are taking advantage of their benefits. So how can an employer make sure they get quality freelancers when there are so many to choose from? Let’s take a look.

Price It Right – Put the appropriate stress on accurate pricing evaluation. In this there are two schools of thought. The first is a straight-up cost per project analysis. A simple plug in of numbers will determine an accurate outlay for your freelance costs. While simple and possibly more affordable in the short term, this may not procure the best talent.

Which leads to another school of thought, becoming more prevalent in today’s market. Rather than basing price on process, base it on desired result as well. Higher price quotes that come with added expertise and immersive analysis which affect your long-term ROI don’t cost you more, they save in the bigger picture.

The Eye Test – It’s tempting to save time by relying solely on an online presence when picking contract workers. However, a face-to face meet is still preferable whenever possible. A meeting better lets the intangible factors come into play. Is this person the right fit? Will the chemistry be positive for all involved? The answers to these questions are important. Location is obviously a factor when meeting, and even a Skype session is better than no session at all when putting a face to an online profile.
