Keep Your Creatives Happy

You’ve got an all-star stable of talent. How do you make sure they stick with you? After all, creatives can be a fickle bunch, and retaining them isn’t easy. There’s never going to be a guaranteed formula, but here are a few things to keep in mind when dealing with your team.
They Aren’t Dummies – Creatives know that they can get similar compensation on their own without an agency once they’ve been established in the market, so keep working hard for them. If they know you’re drumming up business, they’ll be less apt to drum up their own.
Freedom Sells – Make sure they know how good they have it as a freelancer. Twelve hour days at the office doing crappy work that wasn’t mentioned in the interview have a tendency to remind someone that agency work isn’t so bad.
Creatives Create – Creatives want to be challenged to innovate in an environment that lets them utilize their talents. Give them a talent-rich setting and the appropriate tools, then let them work their magic.
Heaping Praise – Let creatives know how much they rock with tons and tons of praise. It’s the oldest and easiest way to stroke their ever-so-fragile egos.
