Online Help for Freelancers

Making your way as a freelancer can be a daunting proposition, especially when just starting out. That’s why it’s nice when you find online resources to help you along the way. It’s even nicer when those resources are free of charge (for basic services), like the ones listed below. From finance tracking and task management to CRM and social media help, the following online resources will help any freelancer get better acquainted with the contract-worker mindset.

Trello – Trello collects, organizes and curates your data, turning itself into a comprehensive project management tool. Organizing projects using a visual approach, Trello utilizes ‘cards’ that have images, files, dates and other important info that you can arrange in a flexible way. This turns the experience of managing all your info into a workboard-like setting.

Waveapps – Every freelance artist knows the importance of tracking your business finances, which is where Waveapps can make a difference. They offer bookkeeping and invoicing software free of charge, which eliminates a huge cost for freelancers just starting out in the field. Track expenses, bill customers, and keep finances organized through an online platform that can be accessed from any device you own.

Buffer – Buffer steps up your social media game by connecting your various online profiles and organizing them to optimize your voice. This app, which embeds into your browser, helps you load shareable data and other content which can be sent out at regular or custom intervals to clients, colleagues and others. This maximizes visibility and engagement, a key for freelance artists.

Insightly – It’s important to maintain ties with your clients, and Insightly can help. They’re a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) platform that lets you keep track of client communications, as well as building your business by managing potential leads for new work. Insightly lets you see your contact’s background, online profiles and other relevant info so you can keep abreast of needs and opportunities that may come about.

Freedcamp – Freedcamp (not to be confused with Basecamp) is a project management resource used by single or multiple users. Schedule events, assign tasks and discuss projects for free as you navigate a dashboard that gives an overview for it all. Freedcamp also offers file storage and extensive deadline and milestone features to keep freelancers focused and on track.
